HRW Wallingford provides world-leading analysis, advice and support in engineering and environmental hydraulics, and in the management of water and the water environment.

Created as the Hydraulics Research Station of the UK Government in 1947, we became a private entity in 1982, and have since operated as an independent, non profit distributing organisation committed to building knowledge and solving problems, expertly and appropriately. Today, HR Wallingford has a 60 year track record of achievement in applied research and specialist consultancy. We have a unique mix of know-how, assets and facilities including state of the art physical modelling laboratories, a full range of computational modelling tools and, above all expert staff with world-renowned skills and experience.

Capability Statement

HR Wallingford has a world-wide reputation for technical excellence and expertise associated with all major marine aspects of the planning, design, optimisation and performance validation of LNG and other oil and gas terminals and associated infrastrucutre. This includes terminal design, navigation, operability and risk, coastal processes, sedimentation and dredging, and metocean risks. We provide expert services during concept development, FEED and EPC phases.

We work with marine renewable energy clients to optimise their investment returns and minimise the environmental impacts of their projects. We provide the technical capability and specialist expertise in areas such as scour and coastal processes, that are needed to inform and support every phase of the development cycle for offshore wind and marine tidal energy projects.

HR Wallingford also helps clients address the engineering and environmental challenges in the deep sea minerals sector, building on our long track record in world class maritime engineering, navigation and hydraulic/ecological studies. We are committed to working with owners, developers, designers and contractors to develop reliable and effective technical solutions based on sound engineering practice. With our active programme of research in sediment plumes and marine sound we can advise on the management of environmental risks stemming from the physical disturbance of the seabed by mineral recovery operations
